Kayem Culture & Art Gallery

Jerry Kayem Alifui is very artistic and talented, and is the owner of Kayem Culture & Art Gallery. The gallery provides a collection of the best handicrafts from Ghana. Jerry has his own style of creating and inventing his art pieces in very unique ways. Jerry is a master painter, woodcarver, and mosaic designer.

Jerry was born in Accra, the capital of Ghana, where he lived until the age of five. He then moved to his father's hometown in the Volta region. There in the countryside, he farmed, learned basketweaving and more. 

Jerry returned to Accra five years later and started schooling again. An energetic and easy-going person, he engaged himself playing football, running and other activities. He sold things like candies, cookies, and chocolate to send himself to school, pay his little sister's and brother's fees and to help feed the family.

He attended junior secondary school, then St. Thomas Aquinas Boys Day School, all in Accra. It was here he was offered and  excelled in Visual Arts for three years. 

After completing school, Jerry started a small business and has over the years worked with tour groups from all over the continent. He spent time traveling and researching as well. He has traveled extensively in Ghana and is ready to share his knowledge about his native country. He has also explored Burkina Faso, Mali, Senegal, Kenya,Switzerland,Denmark and the United States.

He has always been an adventurous and generous person. He is ever ready to help you meet your goals. He can even teach you African and Latin (salsa) dance. Jerry works in the community to support at risk kids, as co-founder of Faawonu. See photos and hear interview at www.faawonu.org
